This is an email to Irv Kempner from Andrzej Folwarczny, the President of the Forum for Dialogue:
Dear Irv,
On Friday our dear Friends of the Forum, daughters of Holocaust survivors from Radom, Hilda Chazanovitz and Sharon Grosfeld, together with one of the participants of our Leaders of Dialogue, Zbigniew Wieczorek brought a Passover Seder back to Radom! For the first time in decades, through their cooperation, descendants of Jews from Radom and contemporary residents and local authorities of the city gathered at the Seder table to tell the story of the Exodus and explain to each other the meaning of the holiday.
Why was this night so special? This is what Zbigniew said about his work with Hilda and Sharon:
“I’ve been doing things here for years. And they have been willing to come back to Radom. Forum of Dialogue has simply connected us. This Seder dinner is, I hope, only a stage in the process experiencing this return together. I can see that they feel at home here. And this is beautiful.”
It all started during our Friends of the Forum Journey to Poland last summer, when we brought our group including five Radomers to meet our amazing School of Dialogue students in Radom and the local Leaders of Dialogue there. As Hilda said: “We didn’t really understand where that meeting would take us. It was a very casual meeting when we were here last summer with our family. But there was an instant connection.” Creating those spontaneous connections, which bear fruit in meaningful events such as the Passover Seder in Radom, is the very essence of Forum’s mission.
Sharon emphasized that “a Seder is an opportunity to bring everybody together. And this was the perfect opportunity”.
We couldn’t agree more and we are honored and grateful that Forum could contribute to the Passover Seder in Radom.
Please, have a look at our Facebook gallery of the event here.
Chag Sameach!
Andrzej
