In its first 25 years, Friends of MOTL has brought 3,000 adults on annual pilgrimages with its chief mission the perpetuation of the teens’ MOTL Program through financial support. The 2014 Friends of MOTL group had 40 participants including 7 from Mass.
Since 1988, MOTL has brought 250,000 teens to Eastern Europe and Israel, teaching 17 – 18 year-olds lessons of the Holocaust and inspiring them to lead the Jewish People into the future vowing ‘Never Again.’” Last April, 14,000 teens from 35 countries participated.
The new Friends of MOTL chapter will provide scholarships for local teens for the 2016 MOTL. It also aims to recruit a contingent of adults (21+) for the 2015 Friends trip. Both groups depart after Passover and last 14 days.
The new Friends of MOTL chapter Steering Committee includes 2014 participants: Lynn Brandes; Aaron Kischel; Shani Winton; and Holocaust survivor Sidney Handler. Working with the group are trip participants Sara Ades Goodwin, and Stanley Hurwitz, Public Relations and Marketing Consultant.
For the 2016 March, thanks to a matching grant from the Kempner Family Foundation, each donation of $1,000 will be matched up to a total of $15,000. Each donation of about $5,000 sponsors one teen’s MOTL trip. To donate to the Friends of the MOTL Endowment Fund for Mass. teens, donations may be sent to: CJP – Kempner Family Foundation, c/o Combined Jewish Philanthropies, Kraft Family Building, 126 High Street, Boston, Mass. 02110. To ensure proper credit, on the memo line, write ‘March of the Living.’ For more information about donations and/or participation in Friends of MOTL and teen MOTL trips, contact us.
