In the spring of 2016 thousands of teens from all corners of the earth will gather in Poland and Israel for a two week, educational experience that will change their lives.
Participants will march as one — 3 kilometers from Auschwitz to Birkenau, the largest concentration complex built by the Nazis, as part of March of the Living (MOTL). The trip, May 1-15, 2016, coincides with Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day), Yom HaZikaron, and Yom Ha’Atzma-ut.
“This is the perfect example of experiential education,” said Jana Brenman, Coordinator of the New England. Region, March of the Living, a sponsor of the trip. MOTL New England region’s group will join 15,000 other teens from more than 40 countries on this journey.
Teens fly to Poland where they visit synagogues, learn about the Warsaw and Krakow ghettos, and search for traces of a world that no longer exists. The march is the powerful highlight of the Poland portion of the trip.
The second week is spent in Israel with unforgettable experiences at modern and ancient sites such as Jerusalem, the Galilee, Masada and more. On Yom Ha’atzma-ut, the group marches to the Kotel. Teens develop lifelong friendships while gaining a deepened appreciation of Israel and their heritage. They also learn how to stand up to any kind of injustice of any kind.
2014 participant Lexi Kutenplon-Rayess said, “In Poland you’re standing on the same ground as our ancestors and you feel it, the emotions are there. A week later you’re in Israel… with thousands of teens from around the world… You have Judaism in common. You feel Israel and the Jewish people come together.”
